It has now been seven years for Pink October in Lodi. Our platform always been focused on creating awareness for the need of early detection for breast cancer. We believe that this is being accomplished.

As we have grown and progressed we have begun to realize the other side of the breast cancer story. Women who are in the fight for their life and struggle financially to stay afloat. The stories have touched our hearts deeply and that is why we are starting the Geweke Caring for Women Foundation in our Lodi area. We will be able to see the tangible results of our efforts by touching these women directly and meeting them right where they are at.

The Geweke Caring for Women Foundation began two years ago in Yuba City. The foundation has helped breast cancer patients buy firewood to heat their home, pay rent, funeral expenses, car repairs, mortgage payments, PG& E bills, medication and so much more.

November 1, 2008 Lodi will be kicking off the Geweke Caring for Women Foundation in our area. All money raised in 2008 will go towards helping Breast Cancer Survivors who are struggling with financial needs.

This year we will be working closely with our partners, the Ben Schaffer Cancer Institute, Delta Sierra Hematology and Oncology, St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Hospice of San Joaquin, Community Medical Center s, Woodbridge Medical Group and American Cancer Society to help identify patients that have financial needs. The assistance will be immediate. Your support will be more important that ever this year.
